Say goodbye to your smurf accounts: Valve introduces prime matchmaking Posted by Andreea “divushka” Esanu at 21 April The biggest change is that players will be required to link a phone number to their account in order to queue for ranked matches. The phone number cannot be attached to multiple accounts, therefore the players who used to bounce between smurf accounts will have to decide which one will be their main. There is a two-weeks period in which you can link your phone number to an account. After the 4th of May all accounts without a phone number will become ineligible for ranked queue. In case you wish to change the phone number linked to your account, you can do so at any time but you will not be able to use the replaced number again for at least three months. Having more players using their primary accounts will have a positive effect on both Ranked and Unranked Matchmaking. Another big change is applied to the party MMR and the way the matchmaker functions now for parties. Simply having an even chance to win over the long run does not necessarily correlate to having competitive matches, but this change will make it so the matchmaker is able to take into account both the party teamwork skill component and the individual capability of the players on both teams.

Dota 2 update finally introduces ranked matchmaking New mode “aimed at experienced players” By Tancrid Muller Valve’s MOBA is getting a sizable update that adds ranked matchmaking features. It adds that “Dota 2 matchmaking has always calculated MMR and used it to form matches; in ranked matchmaking we make that MMR visible. You will enter a “calibration phase” that lasts for 10 matches which will determine your MMR after the update goes live. There are a lot more details in the official post, but here are the few you might find most interesting:

By Sam Stewart Valve has released the patch notes for Dota 2 update 7. What do Gargamel and Dota 2 Ranked matchmaking have in common? They both hate smurfs. Steel yourself for some jolly vigorous high-fives from the lads there.
The ultimate goal of matchmaking is fun, and we have several metrics which we use to measure match quality.
Players using multiple accounts create a negative matchmaking experience at all skill brackets, so our goal is to add just enough friction to this process that the number of players doing this will be noticeably reduced. Having more players using their primary accounts will have a positive effect on both Ranked and Unranked Matchmaking. There will be a two-week grace period from today during which players have time to register a number, but starting on May 4th, accounts without a registered number will no longer be eligible for Ranked play.
If a phone number is removed from an account after registration, a new number can be added, but there will be a three-month waiting period before the removed number can be registered on a new account. This is to prevent using the same number on multiple accounts. Online services that provide phone numbers are not allowed. Any player who selects this option will be placed into matches where all ten players are queuing solo. Simply having an even chance to win over the long run does not necessarily correlate to having competitive matches, but this change will make it so the matchmaker is able to take into account both the party teamwork skill component and the individual capability of the players on both teams.
With both teams having this same mechanic applied to them, the chance for each team to win over a large sample will still be the same as before, but with reduced volatility on a per-match basis. First, being marked for low-priority matches now results in a duration-based ban from the Ranked queue, in addition to the current game-count-based low priority requirement.

Dota 2 will require players to link a phone number to their accounts to participate in ranked matches, to curb the creation of multiple accounts by a single user. Whatever the case, multiple accounts “create a negative matchmaking experience at all skill brackets,” Valve said in a blog post announcing the change. It takes effect May 4. Valve acknowledged that a linked phone number will not eliminate multiple accounts for a single user entirely.
It took me a while to wrap my head around the idea of DotA 2.
Valve has stated that matchmaking tries to fulfil several criteria: The teams are balanced. The discrepancy in skill between the most and least skilled player in the match is minimized. The highest skill Radiant player should be close to the same skill as the highest skill Dire player. The discrepancy between experience measured by the number of games played between the least experienced player and the most experienced player is minimized.
Each team contains about the same number of parties. For example, the matchmaker tries to avoid matching a party of 5 against 5 individual players. Players’ language preferences contains a common language. Wait times shouldn’t be too long. Types Normal Match Unranked or casual games do not display matchmaking ratings and still doesn’t track your MMR for solo and party queues. All PvP game modes are available for unranked matches.
Ranked Match Strict Matchmaking limit solo players to playing against other solo players only. Ranked matchmaking allows players to earn a seasonal ranking , along with a badge that can be displayed next to the profile. Seasonal rankings are reset at the end of each season.

That’ll be revealed when Ranked Matchmaking comes to the free-to-play Dote ’em up, as Valve announced on Friday. The developer’s also shared heaps of details on how exactly Dota 2’s matchmaking works, which is fascinating reading for anyone who’s ever find themself in an unlikely match. Dota 2 already measures and tracks players’ skill, of course, but doesn’t display this matchmaking ranking MMR so it can be difficult to rate yourself objectively.
The new Ranked Matchmaking mode will track all games you play in it, and happily show that MMR to you and your pals, though not those awful strangers on the Internet who’ll use it to talk trash to you. Matches played in Ranked Matchmaking won’t affect the MMR used in other modes, and vice versa, so you can still goof about with friends in matchmaking without worrying about your ranking. As for all these rankings, Valve also explained in the blog post more than it ever has about how they’re calculated, and quite how they’re used.
Seven criteria go into finding your game of Dota 2, from player skill and experience to language choices and wait times. Each is assigned a certain number of points, so for each potential found match Valve totes up the scores until it finds one that’s “good enough. Ranked Matchmaking is due to arrive in the next “major” update, whenever that comes.

The Noob’s Guide to Raising Your Solo Ranked MMR
So today I’m playing dota 2 unranked all pick as always EU east, EU west but i felt that something is wrong with the players im playing with. They were chasing enemies, fighting under enemy towers at low levels etc And then after few games I suddenly realised that im being paired with people who have WAAAYY less experience in dota because they did not even understand things like why MKB or silver edge is needed against PA etc and were raging when I was telling them that they dont have required items to counter enemy team but they have built wrong items instead.
Then I checked their dota account levels and I was right. I am level 60 with matches and all others in my team were between level 23 and

The new Dota 2 ranked matchmaking system is now live Go get your medals, folks. Dota 2 Writer Image via Valve After being delayed a week from its original implementation date, the new seasonal ranked matchmaking system for Dota 2 has finally arrived on the live servers. With its arrival, the inaugural season has also begun—and will run for a whole six months.
Gone is the old stacking matchmaking rating MMR value, replaced entirely by a total of seven league tiers. Every tier has its own unique Rank Medal icon, proudly displayed on every ranked player’s profile. Within each tier, players will have to earn five stars in order to progress to the next league. Up until the Legend rank, both solo and party matchmaking will count towards a player’s progression. Players who wish to earn the Ancient and Divine medals, however, must grind it out in solo queue only.
In all cases, though, solo queue will have a bigger impact on progression. Should a player successfully go up in rank, their medal will change to reflect their progression. The corresponding medal will never go back down to a lower tier during that season, even if a player loses enough games in a row.
