How to hook up a subwoofer to a stereo system Hint: You don’t necessarily need a receiver with subwoofer output jacks. Subs can provide a foundation to the sound that few speakers can muster on their own. So adding a sub is not just about adding more and deeper bass; rather, a properly integrated subwoofer can improve the overall sound of the system. AV receivers feature bass management to direct the low bass frequencies to the sub and the midrange and treble frequencies to the speakers. The subwoofer is hooked up to the receiver with a single interconnect cable. Stereo receivers, pre-amps, and integrated amplifiers rarely have subwoofer output jacks or offer bass-management options. So instead of using those connections, we’ll use the subwoofer’s speaker-level, aka “high-level,” inputs. Most, but not all, subwoofers have these inputs; they get connected using speaker cables to the same speaker output jacks on your receiver or amplifier that are also hooked up to your speakers. That means you have to double up the connections on the receiver or amplifier see photo below that illustrates that connection method.

Most receivers have either preamp-in and preamp-out connections or tape monitor connections. In most cases, these are the best way to connect an equalizer to your stereo. Connecting to the tape monitor channels will require connection to only your receiver. Learn how to hook up an equalizer to the receiver instead. To run a signal from your stereo receiver to the equalizer and then to your amplifier, you will need 2 sets of RCA cable the same kind that is usually used to connect source components like turntables and CD players.
The length of the RCA cables should match the length of the distance between the receiver and the equalizer.
A great way to start to learn tube audio is to get hold of as many schematics as you can find and study them closely.
This amp is great – but Been playing keys in bands since The KC line has fixed that Read complete review Been playing keys in bands since The KC line has fixed that problem. I loved the sound of the KC , but hated the bulk. My choices would be distort, or get lost in the mix.

View WillK’s Album Ok, this sounds a lot like part of my project but I’m using an 8 space load panel where I’m using a 20 space panel And using smaller cable, I’ll get to that. First of all, it looks like you’ve probably got Square D Homeline? Just wanted to check because they have 2 lines, one is Homeline and the other is QO.
In , the band added a full-time bassist, Jance Garfat, and another guitarist, Rik Elswit.
Ask Question Step 7: The Heater Power Supply s Unfortunately, the filament secondary for my power transformer isn’t a separate winding, and doesn’t have a center tap. Maybe I could disassemble the trannie and see if the coils could be separated Placing two large diodes in parallel but opposite directions in an AC supply limits the voltage by the voltage-drop amount.
That dropped the filament voltage right to 6. The two-diode trick works only for AC–current flows through one diode at a time, dropping that half of the waveform by the diode’s voltage drop amount. One diode would do the trick for DC. Plan B However, they weren’t quiet. You really need separate windings to setup a false center tap, which can be used to quiet the heaters.
After trying various solutions, I decided to light just the power tubes with the main transformer, and use a cheap “wallwart” for the 12AX7 preamp. Now the preamp has it’s own, “dedicated,” DC supply This was very quiet, indeed. The wallwart was already on hand. A ground reference false center tap was provided by bridging the 6V by a pair of ohm resistors, tied to the chassis ground.
It does make a difference.
They had played the South, up and down the East Coast, and into the Midwest before breaking up. Cummings, who moved to New Jersey with the plan of forming a new band, brought back Sawyer to rejoin him. They then took on future primary vocalist, New Jersey native Dennis Locorriere , at first as a bass player. Francis, who had returned south after the Chocolate Papers broke up, returned to be the new band’s keyboardist.
When told by a club owner that they needed a name to put on a poster in the window of his establishment, Cummings made a sign:
Hook featuring Ray Sawyer”; the two have been on good terms, and Sawyer has not performed publicly since his last tour ended in October
When was the last time you had anything hooked up to the tape monitors? If you are like me you ditched your cassette deck years ago It would not have occurred to me to attempt to connect the Little Dot to the headphone jack of the Yamaha, but in theory that should work no differently than connecting to the headphone jack of your iPad note it would be better to access a line out signal from your iPad via some sort of docking device.
Sounds like the Yamaha’s headphone circuit may be shot. Do you hear noise and distortion if you hook up your headphones directly to the Yamaha headphone jack too? I would think it is pretty unusual for the headphone circuitry and both tape monitors to fail in the same unit. Either you are very unlucky, have grievously mistreated your poor Yamaha over the years, or are doing something wrong that is not readily apparent from my view across the interwebs most likely There should be a way to make this work if your Yamaha is in good working order.
The headphones work fine when plugged directly into the Yamaha amp. No noise or distortion. Like you, I haven’t used a cassette deck in ages. Back when I used it, though, I was unable to hear output when I pressed the “monitoring” button while recording, so maybe the Yamaha amp has been defective in that area all along.
The cassette playback function worked fine, so there might be some kind of weird problem going on in there. I suspect the Yamaha amp is defective. Twenty-six years has been a long run, and I’ve certainly gotten my money’s worth. I appreciate your assistance!
Hooking up my amp
Summary Do not assume you can put two rated cables together to extend your length. Length and wire size are tied together to give you minimal line loss. Two smaller wire sizes although rated at a specific amperage will not be big enough and you can see significant voltage loss.
So what are the advantages and disadvantages of this scheme?
This is not a liability at all as the B is one of the best sounding tubes ever produced. Even if you have highest efficiency speakers, the golden tone of the B tube and extra headroom it provides, are still the safest bet for DHT amplifier success with the most kinds of speakers, especially if they are not horn types. Push- pull B amplification offers the highest output power level of any of the above configurations up to 40 watts per channel or more in some circuits!
For my initial foray into the world of DIY tube amps, I decided to hedge my bets and go with the B single-ended tube topology for higher power and great fidelity. If so, just skip to the appropriate section that you need. Getting your hands on a good schematic is the probably the second most important step in the amp building process. Unless you are an experienced experimenter and design your own amps, the safest route is to select a proven schematic from many that are offered for free at sites on the Internet.

Watching a movie on a properly set up surround sound system, or listening to your music through a new set of speakers can be an amazing experience. But, the key to a great home theater isn’t just spending a lot of money. Setting up the system correctly is just as important as what you buy. This guide, very simply, walks through the basics of speaker placement, how to hook everything up, and how to change a few settings to really make your system shine.
At this stage, you’ll want to fine-tune your system to get a sound you like.
Supplies Gather your supplies. For the sake of this build we are going to assume you have a 30 amp plug on your generator – like the one shown. If your have one different please adjust your supplies. Buy a UL rated device that fits your specific breaker box. These have been tested and validated to work. Many insurance companies and jurisdictions require the UL rating. Again you will need to buy one that fits your breaker box.
All breakers are not the same. I bought 10 feet of 10 gauge wire in black, red, green and white. Schedule 40 electrical conduit and fittings Conduit body Flexible Non-Metallic Conduit and fittings optional 30 Amp generator extension cord. Search Amazon for your plug type extension cord.
Home theater makeover, start with a power amplifier
If you have speakers already connected to your stereo, fully disconnect them. Active crossover units are larger than passive ones and need to be mounted in a stable location, ideally near your amplifiers. Using the appropriate cables, wire your crossover into the receiver or preamp, with the wires coming out of the receiver going into the “in” terminals on the crossover.
Depending on your receiver and your stereo system, you will probably be making this connection with RCA cables, but some crossovers will are set up to use speaker wire instead as detailed in Method 1 if your receiver doesn’t have RCA outputs. Using the appropriate cables again, usually RCA or speaker wire for a home stereo system , connect the appropriate outputs to the appropriate amplifiers.
This prevents SE transformers in Class A amps which are always drawing current from reaching saturation.

OK so I got my new to me acquired Rodgers home today. When I got to the church to pick it up a construction crew had already got it out of a 2 step down pit on the side of the stage and were already doing their stage extension. To my horror they cut the cables from the back and then pulled them all out. While I could possibly figure this out I’m alittle confused about what their Rodgers, I guess purpose was for their set up.
There are 7 amps S c’s to this system. A slew of speaker boxes, a subwoofer, 2 horizontal speakers mounted in the front wall of building and 2 more that were mounted on the rear wall. I’m trying to get my head wrapped around how this could have been plugged in. There are 4 dark grey 5 pin male cables that are just hanging right next to the plug end box on the back of the organ.
How to connect a headphones amp to a receiver?
Car Audio Black Friday Sales! Even though speakers are active loads resistance changes with frequency , it is accepted to treat speakers as resistors with a fixed resistance value usually 4 ohms. By combining speakers in different ways, maximum amplifier output can be obtained. For example if a 2-channel amplifier is rated to deliver a maximum output of watts at 2 ohms mono bridged , then by hooking up two 4 ohm subwoofers in parallel, a total load of 2 ohms is “seen” by the amplifier, obtaining optimum power.
Parallel Resistance People commonly hook up two or more speakers to the same channel out of an amplifier in parallel. This is achieved by hooking up the negative wire from the amp to all the negative connections of the speakers, and the positive to all the positive connections of the speakers.
I tried it, but the amp became “farty”, so I ripped out the NFB loop right away.
Power amplifiers are devices that amplify electrical signals that have been adjusted to an appropriate volume and tone sent from the mixer, to a level that can be converted to acoustic sounds by the speakers. There are various types and models of power amplifier, varying in size, shape and output power, which are suited to different situations. Types of power amplifier There are three major types of power amplifier, the characteristics of which are described below.
Stand-alone power amplifiers amplify the signals sent from mixers to make the speakers produce sound. Several stand-alone power amplifiers can be installed together in racks, making it comparatively easy to build a large-scale PA system. Since the mixer and power amplifier which require a power supply are integrated into the PA system, only one power supply connection is required, and there are less connections to make than with stand-alone amplifiers.
Since the built-in power amplifier is designed specifically for the speaker, the speaker and power amplifier combination feature superior compatibility, allowing the speaker to perform to the fullest. The mixer output can connect directly to the powered speaker, so there are less cables required. Speakers that do not have a built-in power amplifier but require a stand-alone amp are called “passive speakers”.
To build a PA system as easily and simply as possible, use either a powered mixer or powered speakers, which require fewer connections.
