December 13, 3: At the launch, Ernesto Colnago said: It improves on the design yet it retains the same high-quality construction and methods. The Colnago V2-R frame has been wind tunnel tested to verify its aerodynamics. It features short Kammtail tube profiles, for aerodynamic efficiency without excess material to weigh it down.

There are still numerous blanks and some conflicting thoughts – all are presented below.

All its machines are decked out with the famous Colnago ace of clubs head tube badge. The top tube and down tube have a squared-off star shaped section, which Colnago says increases rigidity. This leads to really good power transfer and an eager ride feel. It uses alloy dropouts for their strength and reliability. But at this price, other makers are increasingly including aero and integration features in their top-end machines.

Benotto sponsored a pro team and the model was essentially a Team replica. This frame is really very special — take a look at the lug shorelines and filing and the little point to the front of the seat lug. It is frequently asserted that these frames were built by De Rosa — it is not true though there were some Team frames back in the s that were… However they did adopt some similar features such as the triangular shaped chainstays and heart cutout in the BB shell; on the other hand the fork crown is pure Pela… However these top of the range Benottos are exceptionally nice.

This one dating I think from is in very sound condition; its major fault is poor chrome on the fork. Columbus SL ovalised Seatpost size: It is built from Columbus SL tubing which has been ovalised. The finish is a wonderful ruby red over chrome — the chrome is excellent and the paint only has a few marks. Merckx’s haul included the Tour de France, the Giro and the spring Classics. Master of innovation Colnago has shown a boldly creative approach to his trade since his earliest days as a mechanic, when he constructed lighter, smaller and more comfortable frames for Giro riders who looked uncomfortable riding the style of bike that had prevailed since before the Second World War.

He has since consistently produced some of the most admired and innovative bikes, from the Mexico, with its crimped Columbus tubing, to the various incarnations of the Master, with its unique star-shaped tubing and straight fork, which helped to reduce rider fatigue.
