These thermostats, whichever type of thermostat or thermostats you have, require little maintenance. Often, I find that the only thing people know about their AC and Heating systems is how to turn the thermostat on and off. And change the temperature setting. The purpose of this site is to help people go beyond the thermostat. To learn more about their system as a whole. And not just a dial on the wall that adjusts the temperature when they are not comfortable. We have many other related articles. Use the search feature to the right to help you find other related articles. Sometimes this is true but often it is something entirely different than the thermostat.

The first thermostat built to listen and learn from your voice – interact with your thermostat using simple voice commands. Advanced ‘far-field’ voice-control technology that breaks through the ambient noise of a busy household and recognizes voice commands. Change the temperature of your home by just speaking commands to the thermostat. Smart Wifi technology allows you to control thermostat settings from anywhere via phone, tablet or computer.
In general, we recommend you have one thermostat per room.
Troubleshooting Guide Baseboard heater strips come from the manufacturer with built-in thermostats. They do the job that they were designed to do, but they have drawbacks. First, quite often using them means getting down on the floor and crawling under or behind tables to adjust them. Second, if you have two or more baseboard heaters in the same room, you have to adjust each of them individually.
It is much more convenient and efficient to connect the baseboard heaters in parallel and hook them up to one wall-mounted, across-the-line thermostat. Measure and mark a spot 5 feet up from the floor. Use an electronic stud finder to make sure that you will not be drilling or cutting into a wall stud. Draw an outline around it. Drill into the wall space where the thermostat cutout is located. Reroute the power cable from the baseboard heater to the wall cutout where the thermostat will be located.
Push the box into the wall cutout and use a screwdriver to turn the screws to secure the box to the wall. As you turn the screws clockwise, the mounting wings will be drawn up against the backside of the wall, holding it in place. Reidentify the white wires as current-carrying wires by wrapping their exposed insulation with black electrical tape.
How to Hook Up Two Baseboard Heaters to One Thermostat
Paul Suarez Karl, We updated this posting today in light of new information we recently received. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly. Karl Dieter Erdmann cadetheat: Nest thermostats have batteries so as long as you hook up the wires correctly they will work fine.
Eventually, I was able to get it apart by slipping a very small flat screwdriver blade between the two connection parts as shown in the photo above.
Hey all, I have a question that I hope some folks who know more than me could help with. I am looking to upgrade to a wifi capable thermostat for a 2nd home. The house is small, near the coast and has a 2ton WaterFurnace Envision series 5 geothermal cube. Since we usually only spend weekends there, and sometimes go long winter stretches without going at all, we usually set the Geothermal at 55 in winter and 76 in summer when we leave, and then bring the system to temperature 2 degrees at a time during the winter as to avoid the back up heat kicking in when we get back.
It would be great to be able to go onto the internet to turn on the AC or heat in advance of arriving, so we do not have to wait for the temperature to come up or down upon arrival. It’s especially bad in winter when it’s 55 and we have to bring it up to 69 2deg at a time. As noted in many of the threads on this site and others, the Nest 2. The Honeywell site is pretty cryptic and does not offer any helpful info at all.
The biggest bummer was calling the Honeywell customer service number and getting a totally useless call-in center in India. The agent had absolutely no clue what I meant when I asked if the thermostat was compatible with geothermal units. So my real question is: Any advice would be much much appreciated.
How to Wire a Honeywell Thermostat
I really appreciate your info and it gives me a lot of ideas. One problem with any manual thermostat solution that’s not automatic is this: I could trivially put another switch breaking the thermostat line on the wall near the door, but it’s not exactly what I need. The scenario that I’m trying to avoid is that my wife has a garage control on her key-chain and has accidentally hit it a couple of times in her pocket or purse.
The alarm contacts are already installed, I just need something to hook it up do. I also have a problem with the batteries for a digital thermostat because the temperature swings will destroy the batteries I don’t run it all the time , possibly damaging or destroying the stat or the wall behind it.
So if it happens that my heater is V then I will replace it with V heater because I do want to go to a modern thermostat like the Nest.
These high capacity thermostats provide for the greatest number of heaters to be controlled with a single thermostat. The TH is also the slimmest of all our thermostat models. TH is equipped with flexible programming to accommodate all types of schedules, a large and legible LCD screen as well as clearly identified buttons. Single pole, 4 wires SIZE: This thermostat is equipped with a micro processor that analyses the system’s past performances in order to optimize future commands.
At the beginning of each cycle, the system sends a command that defines the portion of time the unit is heating during the next cycle. The user can enter a daytime, night-time and vacation time temperature. Product Reviews How do you rate this product? Would buy them again in a heart beat.
UPDATED: How to use a smart thermostat with electric baseboards or wall heaters
I noticed a problem right away with trying to maintain a comfortable temperature in the rig. It seemed like there were large swings in temperature between the furnace or the AC on and off cycles. Also with the analog type slider knob it was hard to precisely adjust the temperature. I did a little research on the web and found many people had upgraded to a digital type thermostat and were happy with the results.
Most of the articles recommended using the Hunter brand Model B, as it was capable of controlling the cooling and heating, plus the fan function.
Reinstall the bolts and torque to 15 Nm 11 ft-lb.
It adjusts the temperature up and down according to your schedule, so you use energy when you need it and conserve energy when you’re away. When you install your Honeywell thermostat, it’s important to understand its wiring. Learning to wire a Honeywell thermostat is easy when you determine the color-coded system. Step 1 Turn the air conditioning and heating unit off by flipping the appropriate circuit breaker. Test the unit to make sure it’s off by turning your existing thermostat to the “On” position and seeing if it turns on.
Wiring a Honeywell thermostat when the circuit breaker is on could cause you to blow the transformer that powers the HVAC unit.

Over the past 6 months or so I’ve noticed a drop in highway mpg from to approx After checking out a number of forum discussions particularly bimmerfest and some European d forums , I thought possibly my thermostat was malfunctioning, with resultant low engine temps. So a low engine temperature for the diesels may cause poor mpg, burn out of glow plugs, and DPF malfunction.
This link on bimmerfest gives an excellent overview of the issue.

Super Thermostat I have two heat pumps to heat and cool my house. The house layout is such that there is no path from one part of the house to another for a big old air duct and two of them offer redundancy in case of failure. I have really nice programmable thermostats on the systems that can shut them off during the peak period but there are still a few things that would be nice to have. Ability for each of them to know when the other one is on to prevent both of them from coming on at the same time, or restrict each thermostat to a specific period of time so they don’t overlap each other.
Be able to adjust both of them from the same spot so you don’t have to run back and forth. Be able to tell if either of them are on and what they are doing when wondering what is eating up the power. Keep visitors from playing with the temperature when they think they’re getting too hot or cold. Sounds like a job for a couple of Web enabled thermostats doesn’t it? Enter another Arduino, this time a thermostat.
